Head Start is heart work. ❤️ As both a former Head Start child and a former Director of the Office of Head Start, I believe deeply in its impact on our babies, families, and future. HHS has proposed changes to the Head Start Program Performance Standards. These changes are not final, and the public comment process gives those closest to Head Start an important opportunity to help shape what comes next. I encourage Head Start leaders, alumni, educators, families, and partners to review the proposal, share their experiences, ask for clarity, and explain what children and programs need. Comments are due October 6, 2026. On September 8 at 3:00 p.m., I will join a national webinar hosted by the Campaign for Grade-Level Reading to discuss these proposed changes, including the proposal to remove the federal standard that limits suspension and prohibits expulsion—and what that could mean for children’s access and engagement. #HeadStart #EarlyHeadStart #HeartWork
